Undergraduate Registration

As part of your academic registration in Liverpool Life, you are required to register for the modules you will take in the academic year.

All Year 1 undergraduate students must ensure they are registered for 120 credits of modules. If a module(s) is ‘required’ for all students on a specific programme, then you should automatically be registered for this.

If your programme offers you optional modules or you need to choose the appropriate level of module (e.g. in languages), you will need to register for these directly in Liverpool Life. Optional modules may be changed up to the end of Week 2 of each semester, subject to availability and timetabling. Note that if you are taking language modules, you will need to ensure you register for the appropriate level of language.

Your departmental Welcome pages will contain information on the structure of your degree programme, including which optional modules are available to you. Note, you can only register for optional modules as listed in your programme structure even if Liverpool Life allows you to choose other modules within the University. Please ensure you check your programme structure on your departmental Welcome pages carefully before registering so you are clear what you need to register for. Further information on your programme structure will also be available via your subject induction sessions in Welcome Week.

Minor subjects in modern languages

If you are taking a minor subject in a modern language (Basque, Chinese, Catalan, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish), you have the option to undertake a Year Abroad in Year 3 of your programme. You will be registered for language modules on the basis that you will be undertaking the Year Abroad and we will contact you in due course to confirm this. If this is not the case and you are not planning to undertake the Year Abroad, please contact the School Student Support Centre at hlcreg@liverpool.ac.uk to ensure your module registration is updated. Note that if you do not undertake the Year Abroad, your degree title will change.

Combined subjects (students studying two subjects)

If you are taking two subjects, you will need to check the programme structure for each of your subjects to ensure you are registered correctly for both (either 60 credits in Subject A and 60 credits in Subject B for joint honours students, or 90 credits in Subject A and 30 credits in Subject B for major/minor students).  A full list of department links is available at Departmental welcome pages - Welcome - University of Liverpool. The programme structures for the relevant subjects will be available under the registration information on each of the departmental Welcome pages.

If you are unsure what module(s) to register for, please contact the School Student Support Centre at hlcreg@liverpool.ac.uk.

Students are responsible for ensuring they are fully and correctly registered for their modules. Failure to register correctly may result in students having fewer options in Years 2, 3 (or 4) and, in some cases, may prevent students from being able to progress to their next year of study.
