Our specialisms include Greek and Roman literature, ancient history, Mediterranean archaeology, British prehistoric and historic archaeology, human evolution, African archaeology, Near Eastern archaeology and Egyptology. 

In the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 our department was ranked 5th in the UK. We offer post-graduates the opportunity to engage in research-led teaching across a wide range of ancient civilisations and languages, in an academically inspiring environment.
