Big Data Analysis Solutions
The team works on various projects in Computing and Software, with special interest in analysis solutions and technologies that link well with the wider scientific Big Data solutions.
High Energy Physics (HEP) heavily relies on sophisticated and performant software and computing technology. Our team works on several fronts around data analysis and is also engaged with the High Energy Physics Software Foundation (HSF). It participated in 2021-2025 in the UK project SWIFT-HEP on SoftWare and InFrastructure Technology for High Energy Physics.
The team is heavily involved in the community project Scikit-HEP co-founded by Eduardo Rodrigues in late 2016. Scikit-HEP is a community-driven and community-oriented project with the goal of providing an ecosystem for particle physics data analysis in Python fully integrated with the wider scientific Python ecosystem. It expands the typical Python data analysis tools for particle physicists, with packages spanning the spectrum from general scientific libraries for data manipulation to domain-specific libraries. The team develops and maintains several of the project packages.
Work is also done within the scope of the LHCb experiment, where the team is involved and has interest in so-called Analysis Facilities, with heterogeneous computing resources for physics analysis and AI/ML work.
The group collaborates internationally with several partners: individuals from CERN and other universities, and several scientists from the US Institute for Research and Innovation in Software for High Energy Physics (IRIS-HEP).
