Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules
Our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules handbook can be taken as part of MSc Radiometrics or as standalone CPD courses.
Individual modules
Each 5-day taught course is worth 15 CATS points (credits) if you complete the assessment. The private study and post-course assignment time indicated on the module pages below is only for those students wishing to be credited as part of an academic award. They don't apply for CPD attendance without assessment.
Build a formal qualification in Radiation Protection
CPD modules are designed to support professionals working across the nuclear and radiation protection sectors. Each module can be taken individually as standalone CPD, or combined to achieve a formal qualification from the University of Liverpool. Find out more about postgraduate qualifications.
Course timings and cost
All modules start at 1pm on a Monday and finish at 1pm on a Friday (with the exception of Radiation Shielding which starts at 10am on a Monday and finishes at 1pm on a Friday).
The cost per module is £1,800 without assessment and £2,800 with assessment (required for CATS points).
-
Develop practical and theoretical knowledge of the identification and measurement of alpha particles using silicon detectors.
-
Develop a practical and theoretical knowledge of neutrons, their interaction with materials and their detection.
-
Explore the basic principles of radiation protection and dosimetry, including biological aspects of being in a radiation environment.
-
Develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the statistical principles involved with radiation detectors.
-
Explore radiation shielding and merge practical problems with industry standard transport codes to understand the requirements for radiation shielding.
-
Develop a practical and theoretical knowledge of all aspects of high resolution gamma-spectrometry using germanium detectors.
-
Develop a practical and theoretical knowledge of neutrons, their interaction with materials and their detection.
Build a formal qualification in Radiation Protection
Each CPD module can be combined to achieve a formal qualification from the University of Liverpool. You can turn your CPD into a Postgraduate Certificate or a Postgraduate Diploma.
