The Russian Constitutional Court Allowed the Russian Authorities not to Execute the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in Prisoner Voting Case

Published on

Today the Russian Constitutional Court has announced a judgment in which confirmed that execution of the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in prisoner voting case Anchugov and Gladkov v Russia is not compatible with the Russian Constitution. Although the Russian Constitutional Court has left some avenues for dialogue with the European Court, these avenues are mostly hypothetical than real. This judgment of the Russian Court might have important consequences to the prisoner voting debate here in the UK. Dr Kanstantsin Dzehtsiarou was interviewed by one of the key Russian Newspapers “Commersant” in relation to this judgment of the Russian Constitutional Court.
