The School of Law and Social Justice (SLSJ) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on research and training cooperation with the Judges Academy in Taiwan.

This partnership will provide unique opportunities for final year students to undertake internships in Taiwan next academic year. These internships can take place either in Taiwanese District Courts or the Academy.

The internships will last two months and will provide students with valuable international legal experience.

The agreement will also allow the School to reciprocate and host judges recommended by the Judges Academy. The visiting judges will be guest researchers who will be able to collaborate with SLSJ academics and take part in classes avaliable during the visit.

The Taipei-based Judges Academy is responsible for training judges and equipping them with the relevant legal knowledge, similar to the Judicial College of England and Wales in the UK.

On signing the MoU, Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas, Dean of the School of Law and Social Justice said:

“This agreement between the School of Law and the Judicial Academy is a first-class example of impactful international cooperation between the University and a key institution in the field of judicial training and development.

“We very much look forward to developing meaningful research and training links with the Judicial Academy, to enhance the international reputation and visibility of our Law School.”
