We are the in-house legal team that support the five adult acute and specialist NHS Trusts in Liverpool. The Hospitals we serve include Aintree, Royal, Broadgreen, Dental, Women's, Heart and Chest and the Walton Centre.

As an in-house legal team no two days ever look the same. We advise the Trusts across a range of disciplines including healthcare, employment, regulatory, commercial/contract, property, public law and others. We manage claims, provide advice, attend Court and provide training sessions to clinicians on the front line. We face increasingly diverse queries and cases as part of our work supporting such a complex and specialist group of NHS organisations. We may find ourselves advising a surgeon (urgently!) on how best to resolve a treatment dispute with a patient and their family before then needing to scrutinise and discuss a new contract or lease. Our work can be demanding, is sometimes high profile but is very rewarding.

We are a growing team and are led by experienced General Counsel and Principal Employment Solicitor. We currently have two trainee Solicitors who are due to qualify in June 2026. A placement year with our team will mean getting to grips with the day-to-day role of a lawyer from the start; you will manage your own caseload under supervision and be exposed to the full breadth of the work that our team deals with. You will need to have an interest in modern healthcare and have second-to-none communication skills to help you effectively advise the wide variety of people and specialists that work here.
