Decolonising the Body
We invite submissions for the upcoming SLSA-funded interdisciplinary workshop Decolonising the Body, a one-day event exploring the enduring impacts of colonialism on healthcare, law, and the regulation of bodies. This workshop builds on previous events funded by the Modern Law Review and the SLSA, and aims to foster dialogue between academics, practitioners, and community organisations.
Themes and topics of interest
We welcome papers and presentations that critically engage with the intersections of colonialism, medicine, and law. Topics may include (but are not limited to):
- Colonial legacies in healthcare systems and medical regulation
- Racial disparities in health outcomes and access to care
- Empire-shaped science and its influence on definitions of health and disease
- Obstetric violence and maternal mortality among minoritised communities
- Legal and medical constructions of gender, race, and the body
- Community-led health justice and decolonial activism
- Ethical and regulatory challenges in global health
We encourage submissions from scholars, practitioners, activists, and community members, especially those from under-represented backgrounds.
