The Honourable Mr Justice Hedley
Sir Mark Hedley was born in London on the 23rd August 1946. His father was Peter Hedley and his mother was and Eve Hedley. Sir Mark married Erica Britton in 1973, with whom he has had three sons and one daughter.
Sir Mark was schooled at Framlington College and then read law at the University of Liverpool. He graduated with an LL.B. (Hons) in 1968. He was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1969 and became a Bencher of Gray's Inn in 2002. Sir Mark practiced at the Liverpool Bar from 1971 to 1992 and became head of his Chambers from 1983 to 1992.
Sir Mark sat as a Recorder from 1988 to 1992 and became a Circuit Judge in 1992. He was appointed a Justice of the High Court, Family Division, in 2002 and sat until 2013. He was knighted by the Queen in 2002 on his elevation to the High Court bench as is custom. Sir Mark retired on the 10th January 2013.
Sir Mark was awarded an Honorary LL.D. from the University of Liverpool in 2003.
