Student support and wellbeing
We want all Pre-sessional English students to have a positive and supportive experience while studying at the English Language Centre.
Support from your teachers
If you experience any difficulties during your studies, your teacher or tutor should be your first point of contact.
You will have regular one-to-one tutorials throughout the course. These sessions give you an opportunity to:
- discuss your academic progress
- ask questions about your studies
- raise any concerns you may have.
Your tutor can listen to your concerns and help you find the right support if you need additional help.
University support services
The University offers a wide range of support services for students.
These services provide advice and guidance on issues such as:
- mental health and wellbeing
- financial concerns
- disability support
- personal or practical difficulties
- specialist support for international students.

Counselling and mental wellbeing
The University’s Counselling Service provides confidential support for students experiencing emotional or personal difficulties.
Support includes:
- confidential counselling appointments
- guidance on mental wellbeing
- online self-help resources.

Wellbeing workshops and study support
The Counselling Service works with the University Library to deliver KnowHow workshops that help students develop skills for managing university life.
Topics include:
- mindfulness
- managing stress
- coping with anxiety
- maintaining positive wellbeing during your studies.

If you need support during your studies:
