The Liverpool@CERN Particle Physics School took place from 18–22 August 2025, hosted at CERN and organised locally by Dr Jordy Degens and Dr Ned Howarth. The school welcomed 24 students from 11 different schools across the UK, including several who were supported with partial or full bursaries, as well as staff from three schools.
Over the week, students were introduced to the frontiers of particle physics through lectures, hands-on activities, and visits to CERN experiments. Talks were given by Mehul, Abby, Monica, Alex, Sinead, Clara, Sam, and others, who shared insights into both the theoretical and experimental aspects of the field. Laboratory tours offered a unique chance to experience the working environment of particle physics first-hand.
The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with students describing the school as “absolutely brilliant” and praising both the teaching and the opportunity to immerse themselves in the CERN environment. The programme not only inspired the next generation of physicists but also strengthened links between universities, schools, and CERN.
Alexandra Galloni, Head of Science and Technology at Sevenoaks School, thanked the organisers and confirmed that the school has already requested approval to return in 2026, scheduled for 17–21 August. The Liverpool@CERN School continues to be a flagship initiative for outreach and education, providing young people with an unforgettable introduction to the world of high-energy physics.
