Language acquisition, learning and teaching

Our research in second language learning encompasses both language analysis and situated, classroom-based research.

Members of the group are engaged in research within the following areas: instructed second language acquisition, first language acquisition, using corpus linguistics to understand language and inform classroom practice, text-driven approaches to materials design and materials evaluation.

Our work in this area shares a common concern for developing a fuller understanding of the ways in which both languages are learnt and understood as they contribute to human communication.
