Free English classes for refugees and asylum seekers
The English Language Centre offers free English classes for refugees and asylum seekers living in the Liverpool City Region. The classes help you improve your English and communicate more confidently in everyday life.
Class times
Classes take place twice a week at the University of Liverpool.
Monday
2:20pm – 3:50pm
Wednesday
2:20pm – 3:50pm
Students should attend both classes each week.
What you will learn
The classes focus on practical English for everyday situations.
You will practise:
- speaking and conversation
- listening skills
- reading and writing
- grammar and vocabulary
Lessons include discussions, language exercises and group activities.
Class size
Classes are small, with a maximum of 14 students. This means you will have regular opportunities to practise speaking and ask questions.

The English Language Centre is located on the University of Liverpool campus in the city centre.
Travel
The University cannot pay for travel costs. However, once you join the class, we may be able to help you apply for a student travel card.
Certificate
Students who attend regularly will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.
