Ethan Coulson-Haggins
Hoplite Warfare in Ionia and Lycia
Biography
Ethan was awarded a BA (Hons) in Ancient History (2022) and a Master of Research (MRes) in Classics and Ancient History (2023) from the University of Liverpool, receiving several academic awards and an HLC scholarship.
Ethan is now a full-time PhD student at the University of Liverpool, funded by the AHRC North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership (2023-2026). He is also a member and editor for the Milesian Tales research group, a group of researchers at the University of Liverpool working on the history, archaeology and cultural heritage of Ionia and Western Anatolia.
Research interests
Ethan’s research focuses on the nature of hoplite warfare in ancient Ionia and Lycia during the Archaic and Classical periods, seeking to contribute to the 'Mediterraneanization' of Greek hoplite warfare. His research interests thus include anything and everything relating to land warfare in Greece and Anatolia.
