Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)

If you've applied to us and accepted an offer of a place, you'll need to obtain a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement if you require a Student visa to study in the UK.

The CAS statement contains personal details and information about your course, as well as a unique reference number that you'll need for your Student visa application.

Once you've met the CAS requirements for your intended level of study, we'll issue your CAS statement electronically and email it to you.

CAS requirements for undergraduate degrees

If you're intending to join an undergraduate degree, we'll send you your CAS statement when you've:

  • Firmly accepted our offer of a place through UCAS
  • Met any conditions of your offer. This means your UCAS status is unconditional firm (UF)
  • Provided us with evidence of your qualifications. We'll accept copies of academic documents during the application process. However, you'll need to present the original documents when you enrol on campus to successfully complete the registration process
  • Obtained an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate, if required.

To submit any documents to us, please use our supporting document portal for undergraduate applicants.

Please note, we may not be able to issue a CAS statement if you're seeking to join an undergraduate degree but have previously studied at degree level in the UK.

If you have any queries about your CAS statement, please email ugosi@liverpool.ac.uk for advice.

CAS requirements for master's courses

If you're intending to join a master's degree, we'll send you your CAS statement when you've:

  • Paid your tuition fee deposit (unless your tuition fees are being paid by a sponsor)
  • Obtained an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate, if required.

You must also have provided us with a scanned copy of your current passport, either as part of your initial course application, or later in the application process.

If there are any problems with issuing your CAS statement, or we require any further information from you, we'll get in touch by email. Please ensure you've provided us with your current email address and check your inbox regularly.

How to use your CAS reference number

Your CAS reference number is valid for six months and can only be used once. We typically issue CAS statements from late Spring, if you're starting a course in September, once the requirements for your intended level of study have been met.

You'll need to provide your CAS reference number as part of your application for a Student visa. You can apply for a Student visa up to six months before the start of your course, although you can start to prepare your Student visa application in advance.

It's important to ensure that the information on your CAS statement is accurate so it matches your Student visa application. If any details are incorrect or change, you must inform us so that your CAS statement can be updated before you apply for a Student visa. Your existing CAS statement will remain valid but your details will be updated with the UK Home Office.

How to request a new CAS statement

If your Student visa application is refused, you'll need to obtain a new CAS statement before you can submit another Student visa application. You should contact the relevant email address for your intended level of study to request this.

Please include your full name, applicant ID and copies of your Student visa refusal documents. We'll look into whether we can issue you with a new CAS statement and let you know by email.

We strongly recommend that you don't arrange another visa appointment or non-refundable travel until we've confirmed if a new CAS statement can be provided.
