Santa Cruz Field Class

Year 3 – ENVS 352

This field class provides a unique opportunity to undertake 2 weeks high quality physical geography field-based research in Santa Cruz, California, located just South of San Francisco. Santa Cruz was selected as a location for this field course for a number of reasons. High on the list are the mild weather, accessibility of information, and the great diversity of natural and human environments.

Santa Cruz Main Body

Students undertake field research in teams of three or four on a topic of their choice, selected with guidance from academic staff. The success of this kind of research depends critically on thorough preparation: significant work for this module is therefore completed before our arrival in California. As part of this preparation, each team must write a research proposal based both on the current research literature and experience derived from  a pilot field project in or around Liverpool.
