Our leading edge research is organized across four thematic groups:
The School of Environmental Sciences provides a focus for national and international research collaboration, via a number of well-known centres hosted at the University.
Run in association with organisations such as Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Economic and Social Sciences Research Council (ESRC).
Our world class facilities, combined with strong research leadership and academic support provides an excellent location for students wishing to pursue research degrees. There are a range of opportunities available each year in both Geography and Planning.
Much of the research that we do has an impact outside of academia. Our research often involves collaboration with partners in the public, private and civil society sectors to identify research problems and methods that address key concerns. Some examples of our recent partners include English Nature, The Marine Institute, Mersey Forest and the European Environment Agency.
Colleagues in the department are also actively engaged in cross-university research initiatives on Global Health, Living with Environmental Change, Sustainable Energy, Changing Cultures and the Doctoral Network in Technologies for Healthy Ageing.
