The Liverpool Players

The Liverpool Players specialise in performing early drama and literature for the public at free cultural events in the North West of England.

Established in 2012 by Professor Sarah Peverley (Director), the troupe comprises students and alumni from the University of Liverpool, who are dedicated to exploring the richness of early English literature and making it accessible to all. Many of the players are studying English and want to experience early stagecraft in a creative and practical way, but anyone with a passion for drama and storytelling can get involved.

The Players work in partnership with a number of cultural venues in Liverpool and the surrounding area, including:

  • Speke Hall
  • Walker Art Gallery
  • Merseyside Maritime Museum
  • Liverpool Central Library
  • Liverpool Museum
  • Liverpool Cathedral
  • Rufford Old Hall
  • Lady Lever Art Gallery

They have also contributed to national events, such as the Being Human Festival, The British Academy’s Literature Week, and Saint George’s Festival. Recent collaborations include:

  • The National Trust
  • Liverpool Museums
  • Culture Liverpool
  • The Everyman Theatre
  • Spike Theatre
  • Liverpool University Drama Society
  • Sonnatas a trè
  • Liverpool Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies

The players also offer costumed storytelling sessions for schools and pre-schools.
