Digital Inclusion and Media Literacy Policy Projects

Led by Professor Simeon Yates and funded by the British Academy and Ofcom, two projects were conducted with a view to guiding policy and practical interventions aimed at reducing digital inequalities and promoting media literacy in the UK.

This projects were based on the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data gathered from policymakers and civil society organisations involved in the promotion of digital inclusion and media literacy within five key regions across the UK:

  • Birmingham city region
  • Manchester city region
  • Liverpool city region
  • Wales (Welsh Government)
  • Scotland (Scottish Government)

This research explored the factors that can help create a climate, within the regions identified, in which successful digital inclusion and media literacy strategies thrive and promotion of these strategies is a priority. We explored what provision looks like for citizens of these regions, who is delivering it and whose engagement/investment is necessary for its success.
