Digital Inclusion and Digital Literacy Policy Projects

Led by Professor Simeon Yates, and funded by the British Academy and Ofcom, the objective of the projects is to guide policy and practical interventions aimed at reducing digital inequalities and promoting media literacy in the UK.

This will be achieved through the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data gathered from policymakers and civil society organisations involved in the promotion of digital inclusion and media literacy within five key regions across the UK:

  • Birmingham city region
  • Manchester city region
  • Liverpool city region
  • Wales (Welsh Government)
  • Scotland (Scottish Government)

We aim to shed light on the factors that can help create a climate, within the regions identified, in which successful media literacy strategies thrive and promotion of media literacy is a priority. We explore what provision looks like for citizens of these regions, who is delivering it and whose engagement/investment is necessary for its success.
