We're pleased to announce the recipients of the latest round of funding from both the Faculty Public Engagement Grants Scheme and the Research England Participatory Research Grants. The response to these funding opportunities was fantastic, reflecting the enthusiasm and commitment to public engagement with research. In total, we received applications requesting an impressive £224,746!

Participatory Research Grants

These grants, funded via Research England’s Participatory Research allocation, aim to enhance research outcomes by involving communities and research users. We're proud to support a diverse range of projects across our Faculty, including:

  • Dr Jennifer Kirton’s project: The Development and Evaluation of an Autism Patients Concerns Inventory (PCI) for use in GP consultations. This project addresses health inequalities and aims to improve the healthcare experiences of autistic patients.
  • Hannah Trivett's project: Exploring Public Partnership in Pathogen Whole Genome Sequencing Research and its Data Visualization. This initiative seeks to understand the most effective stages of pathogen whole genome sequencing for dialogue between researchers and the public.

Faculty Public Engagement Grants

Designed to foster and promote public engagement with research, this scheme has funded eight innovative projects from across our Faculty with grants of between £200 and £2000 including:

  • Dr Victoria Kinsley’s project: Guess the X Ray Jigsaw, a creative endeavour involving the construction of a large portable jigsaw with skeletal x-rays, promoting dialogue about diagnostic radiography.
  • Dr Muhammad Awais's project: Fun with Scientists and Medical Doctors, featuring talks and interactive activities about pancreatitis, diabetes and gum disease, aimed at engaging BAME communities from deprived areas.

We're looking forward to seeing the progress of these exciting projects throughout the year. For updates and further information on any of the initiatives or funding schemes, please visit our social media channels or website, or email us at HLSEngagement@liverpool.ac.uk
