Dr Neil French, Head of Clinical Operations, Clinical Directorate, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Neil is responsible for all Professional Services activities that support the development of priority research areas, enhance clinical academic training and streamline functional activities to deliver world-leading clinical research. He joined the University in 2008 as Senior Scientific Operations Manager for the MRC Centre for Drug Safety Science, and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in delivering large-scale project and programme grants involving multiple stakeholders from academia, industry and the NHS. Prior to joining the University, Neil worked in the biotechnology sector. He holds an honours degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Cancer Sciences.


Dr Shona Jones, Senior IP Commercialisation Business Manager for Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Research Partnerships and Innovation

Shona has been in post since May 2017 and has expertise in identification and commercialisation of IP from life science research across the University. She works with academic scientists to get new technologies out of the lab and into the market through licencing or setting up new University spin-out companies.  With over 20 years’ experience in academia and industry, prior this role, Shona was a principal Scientist for Biotec Start, with a wide range of responsibilities. Shona is a named inventor on a patent which is licenced to Solvotrin Therapeutics, which she worked on during a postdoc at Trinity College Dublin. Shona is committed to helping University Inventors realise the commercial potential of their inventions.


Dr Carol L Roberts, Senior Research Partnership and Impact Manager, RPI

I support a diverse range of partnership development activities to help grow collaboration and co-creation with non-HEI external partners, particularly in the health and life science spaces. I support academics on a variety of projects, covering partnership development, grant writing to secure collaborative research income, supporting impact producing activities, all at a local, regional and national level.


Dr Jiafeng Feng, Translational Research and Funding Development Manager, FHLS Research and Impact Directorate

Jiafeng’s post is funded by the Wellcome Institutional Translational Partnership Award and her role is to assist researchers in translating their research. This includes signposting relevant funding schemes, connecting researchers to various research support services such as the IP and Commercialisation team, Research Design Service, Clinical Trials Units and Clinical Research Network, or helping to identify an industry partner. She also provides grant application support to academics.


Rosie Corbin, Research and Impact Officer, FHLS Research and Impact Directorate

I am Project Manager for the University of Liverpool-Welcome Institutional Translational Partnership Award (ITPA). Within this I also coordinate the “Translational Research Access Programme” (TRAP) which provides funding of up to £100k per project to pump prime translational research.


Stacey Carruthers, LHP SPARK Research Coordinator

Staceys role is to offer advice and support while facilitating the grant application and costing process for health and social care research involving one or more of the LHP partners.
