The Environmental Change Group is an interdisciplinary research collective at the University of Liverpool.
Together, we explore the past, present and future of environmental change across Earth, thereby addressing some of the most pressing issues facing humanity.
Our research can be grouped into five key themes:
Biosphere
Our research focuses on understanding recent and future ecosystem changes in the living portion of planet Earth, including processes above and below ground.
Palaeoenvironments
We reconstruct past environments across many different environments on Earth from the tropics to the poles, ranging in timeframes from large-scale, long-term climate changes (glacial-interglacial cycles) to abrupt climate changes.
Ice Sheets and Glaciers
We study ice masses on all scales, from the large polar ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica, to the mountain glaciers of the world.
Hydrosphere
We study the movement of water across our planet, particularly in lakes, rivers, wetlands, constructed waterways and along coastlines and estuaries
Environment and Society
Environment and society explores the interconnected relationships between the environment and societies past, present and future, exploring questions of vulnerability, sustainability, adaptability, and resilience.
