Improving outcomes of hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP)

Dr Dan Wootton is a consultant respiratory physician and senior clinical lecturer at Liverpool. Dan's research focusses on respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia, bronchiectasis and mycobacterial lung diseases. These diseases are common, severe and investment in the understanding and management of these conditions has been poor.

Dan has undertaken critical policy work to deveop a national approach to hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP). HAP is now recognised as the most common healthcare associated infection in the UK, and if diagnosis can be made more rapidly and accurately, this will have significant clinical benefits for patients and the NHS.

This video explains the positive outcomes he gained from engaging with policy makers and the process he went through to ensure that his work could make significant impact.
