AHRC Doctoral Landscape Awards
The University of Liverpool has been awarded an AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award, worth £1.5m, to support funding and training for postgraduate researchers in the arts and humanities for the next five years.
This Doctoral Landscape Award scheme will support three full PhD studentships each year, 2026-2030. The studentships will consist of a maintenance stipend, payment of tuition fees, a Research Training Support Grant, and funding for placements with non-HEI Partners.
Applying for Doctoral Landscape Award funding
The application process will consist of two stages: a preliminary Expression of Interest stage, followed by a full research proposal stage.
We welcome Expressions of Interest from any prospective PhD student who intends to research within the arts and humanities, and who intends to commence their studies in October 2026. International students are welcome to apply, as are candidates who intend to study part-time around other commitments.
A limited number of candidates will be selected, on the basis of the content of their Expressions of Interest, to then work up a full research proposal in collaboration with a prospective academic supervisor. Three candidates will then be selected, of the basis of their research proposal and the expression of interest combined, to receive a full studentship from the AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award.
Further details on the application process for funding commencing in October 2026 will be available here after September 2025.
