The University of Liverpool is partnering with Liverpool University Press (LUP) to deliver an MA in Publishing from September 2026.
The programme will have a specific focus on academic and trade publishing, from editorial to production and marketing. It will combine the industry expertise of our on-site publishing house – the third oldest university press in the UK – with the academic excellence of an institution which is currently ranked within the world top 100 for English (QS World University Rankings 2025).
In preparation for employment, students will have the opportunity to undertake a relevant work placement, and receive in-house professional support from LUP, including career coaching and CV development.
“Developed in partnership with the award-winning Liverpool University Press, the MA Publishing is grounded in industry best practice, with an emphasis on enhancing employability”, commented Anthony Cond, Chief Executive at LUP.
“The majority of teaching is undertaken by staff actively working in publishing, bringing live insights and reflecting the ongoing evolution of the field. As a result, graduates will be particularly well placed to secure future employment.”
Professor Greg Lynall, Head of the Department of English, added:
“The Department of English and Liverpool University Press have been working closely for many years on initiatives including the hugely successful Pavilion Poetry series and its associated undergraduate work placements. I’m delighted that we are building on this strong partnership with a new and exciting MA which blends academic study with training in the latest publishing practices.”
The Department of English at the University of Liverpool was ranked top 10 in the UK for research impact classified as outstanding (4*) in the last Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021). The MA Publishing is the latest addition to an extensive portfolio of postgraduate provision which spans the Department’s expertise in language, literature and creative writing.
Applications for MA Publishing will open in October 2025. For further information, and to register your interest, please visit the webpage.
