British Shakespeare Association Conference

The Department of English will next week be hosting the British Shakespeare Association Conference.

Taking place 25th - 28th July 2023 in the 502 Teaching Hub, the conference will see over 190 academics, teachers and theatre practitioners converge to discuss the theme 'Re-locating Shakespeare'.

Highlights will include:

  • Plenary lectures by Dr Eleanor Ryecroft (University of Bristol); Prof Emerita Poonam Trivedi (formerly University of Delhi); Ben Crystal (author, actor, producer)
  • Plenary Roundtable Discussion at Shakespeare North Playhouse, featuring Dr Peter Kirwan (Mary Baldwin University), and a performance by Imaginarium Theatre
  • The DESIblitz one of a kind Punjabi Truck Art Bus, displaying South Asian Material from Birmingham’s Shakespeare Collection (Wednesday 26th July
  • Roundtable discussion: ‘Re-locating Shakespeare Theatrically’, featuring Greg Doran (Royal Shakespeare Company)

The conference has been organised by Dr Esme Miskimmin (Dept of English), Dr Katie Knowles (Dept of English) and Prof Elspeth Graham (LJMU).
