Dr. Lucienne Loh has recently collaborated with Dr. Stuart Eglin of NHS R&D North West, an organisation which seeks to support the capability and capacity of the NHS health and social care research workforce, to design a series of participant-led research seminars called the "Provocation Series".

Each online seminar of 3 hours is based on a themed "provocation" -- drawing on research from within the English Department and more widely from the work by other HSS researchers. The series seeks to bring HSS research into conversation with non-clinical elements of medical practice within NHS North West and to inspire new forms of cross-disciplinary collaboration and potential funding applications.

The initial pilot seminar was held in July 2021 by Dr. Lucienne Loh from the department on "Racialised Consciousness" and another seminar was held in October by Dr. David Oakey and Dr. Chris Jones on the "Language of NHS messaging".

Dr. Lucienne Loh recently participated in the launch of the Health Expo 2022 organised by NHS R&D North West and showcased the Provocations Series as well as this new collaboration between the NHS and the English Department. NHS Associates will also be working with the various HSS researchers involved in the Provocations Series to write up policy briefs that offer recommendations for ways in which HSS research can help improve NHS systems and processes.
