Materials discovery

Scientists in a modern lab work alongside robotic arms and automated equipment at various workstations.

Accelerating solutions to tackle net zero challenges through pioneering digital materials design and automation.

Our unique research has applications in clean energy, healthcare, sustainable living and consumer products. We are helping governments and businesses across the world work towards reducing their carbon emissions.

Leading the way

At Liverpool we have an outstanding reputation for applying our advanced digital and computational modelling capabilities to design net-zero materials, proven by our recent Queen's Anniversary Prize. Digital tools and robotics are pivotal, enabling our researchers to rapidly identify sustainable solutions.

Through this Frontier, we will further develop easy-access academic facilities, providing immediate benefits to our city and beyond. Our plans for the AI Materials Hub for Innovation (AIM-HI), a purpose-built chemical sciences facility in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, will position the UK as a global leader in the large-scale application of AI to materials chemistry.

With secured investment in new Centres for Doctoral Training, we are cultivating the scientists and engineers of the future and building cutting-edge facilities for the next generation.

Our approach

Our agile methodology – The Liverpool Model - supports both small and large organisations in their quest for net-zero solutions by providing access to funding, facilities, equipment, and expertise.
