PRECISE-DYAD

Pregnancy Care Integrating Translational Science Everywhere (PRECISE) Dyad follows a cohort of 4800 women and their children in The Gambia and Kenya.

This study aims to investigate mechanisms that underpin optimal maternal and child health trajectories following either normal or complicated pregnancy. The impact of pregnancy disorders on the children’s physical, mental, and neurodevelopmental health until three years of age will be assessed. The consequences for maternal health trajectories of caring for children with moderate-to-severe neurodevelopmental delay resulting from complicated pregnancies will be explored, and interactions with social determinants of health, including environmental exposures on maternal and infant health, will be interrogated. The substudies in PRECISE-DYAD  include clinical and non-clinical data assessments, neurodevelopmental assessment, mental health, quality of care, air quality, water sanitation and hygiene, and health economics. The mother-child dyads will provide data to compare the context of women and their children, their environment, biology, and neurodevelopmental outcomes. These culturally and geographically relevant data will aid in identifying pathways to health resilience or vulnerability of pregnant women and the neurodevelopmental outcomes of their children in sub-Saharan Africa.
