Dental student practising clinical skills

Destination Dentistry

We're passionate about widening participation in dental careers, ensuring that dental professionals represent and understand the needs of the patients they care for.

Our programmes aim to encourage people with the potential and interest in progressing to study dentistry. We prioritise people from backgrounds that are generally under-represented in higher education.

Year 9 taster day and Year 10 summer school

Groups of students from local schools are invited to participate in practical activities at the university such as placing a filling and interpreting dental x-rays. Current students and staff from the School of Dentistry also deliver inspiring talks offering advice and guidance, including an insight into life as a University of Liverpool dentistry student.

Destination Dentistry

Our Destination Dentistry summer school welcomes Year 12 students who are seriously considering making an application to study dentistry. Over three days of workshops, students learn interview and application techniques, practise clinical skills and visit a local clinical setting.

Embarking on a degree as immersive, challenging and exciting as dentistry can be daunting, especially for students who may be the first in their family to go to university. Our taster days and summer schools help to reassure students of their capability and uncover some of the mystery surrounding clinical careers.
