Patients in hospital waiting room

Volunteering at clinics and hospitals

Our students spend much of their time perfecting clinical skills and building their technical knowledge. To complement this, and the experience gained on clinical placements, volunteering at our Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust centres is a great way to develop patient care skills.

Hospital volunteers help patients find their way around and provide company and support while waiting for appointments. This is a different kind of patient care than health professionals are trained to provide, where medical and health sciences knowledge isn't necessary. Volunteers instead focus on building interpersonal skills and helping patients to feel at ease at what can be a difficult time.

Volunteer opportunities are open to the public with new volunteers regularly recruited throughout the year.
