The generosity of the University of Liverpool Veterinary Alumni Association (ULVAA) and donors of the School of Veterinary Science Fund ensures that current students have opportunities to prioritise their wellbeing alongside their studies.
Each year, Vet School student societies are invited to apply for funding to enhance their student experience. Here are some further updates from the student societies and projects supported in 2024-25, shared by the students.
Liverpool Vet School Netball Club
"We’re incredibly grateful for the support we have received from donors this year. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to train regularly, welcome new members, and enjoy a fantastic season across all our teams.
While all three teams performed well and showed improvement, our Sunday team had an outstanding season in the Liverpool Netball League, placing fourth in a tough division. To top this, we also won the cup, beating the top of the division above us! Bring on next season!"
Anna Kane and Tayte Moon, Kit Secretary and Captain (Sunday team)
Liverpool Vet School Rugby Club
"Thank you for the generous donation we received this year, which has enabled us to play as part of the North West Leagues Division 3 South. We finished the season on a high with an away match victory against Buxton, despite having no substitutes because it was the Easter holidays.
Your support has helped us cover costs for away games such as the Buxton match. In the second semester, it also allowed us to hire a pitch for our varsity match against the Medics. Although we lost by a single penalty kick, we're determined to come back stronger next season and secure a win for the Vets!
We have a lot to prove next year and will give it our all to make ourselves and the Liverpool Vet School community proud."
Robin Preston, Treasurer
Liverpool Vet School Hockey Club
"Thank you once again for your generous funding this season. Your contribution enabled us to buy training equipment and subsidise the cost of playing tops. These new playing tops arrived just in time for our match against the Liverpool University Development side, which we won 3-0. We also wore our tops for our professional team photographs, which will provide lasting memories.
We used the remaining funds to subsidise our end of season meal at Fredricks, so that we could enjoy and celebrate our achievements together.
The equipment purchased at the start of the academic year was used to host weekly hockey sessions during May, supporting wellbeing during the challenging exam period. Having the equipment meant we were able to accommodate everyone who wanted to join.
Your generous funding has meant we have been able to create a foundation for future success and growth – from equipment and kit to team-building activities."
Jenna Morrison, Captain
Liverpool University Vets Squash Society
"Thank you for supporting us over the last year. We used some of the funding for our annual Staff vs Students charity competition, which was a great success! It was an opportunity to fundraise and have fun, and we were especially grateful to the staff who were such good sports in taking part. Although we’re sorry to report that the trophy remains in the hands of the staff for another year…"
Jacob Porter, Treasurer
Liverpool University Vets Football Society
"From beating the team at the top of the league, to losing 9-1, every game has been great fun. We are sorry that there will be some big departures from the team, as they go into fourth year or beyond, but together we have gone from strength to strength, and we are looking forward to improving even more next year! Many thanks to the Association for the donation, which enabled us to continue running the team."
Jacob Norton, Kit Secretary
LUVS Summer Ball
"The LUVS Summer Ball was an evening enjoyed by all, held at Aintree Racecourse and including a drinks reception as well as a sit-down meal. There was also entertainment provided by the SATH band, which was a great hit!
We used the contribution from the Vet Student Fund to cover the cost of a photographer for the evening, ensuring that special memories were captured for all. Your contribution towards the event was appreciated."
Erin James, Summer Ball Rep
