Transforming lives
Your generosity is creating real and lasting change for our students.
It gives them the opportunity to take up their place at the University – and to do more than just study. It’s helping them to belong, grow, and succeed.
Students from all walks of life are accessing bursaries, scholarships, and funding, which eases financial pressure and unlocks opportunities. Your generosity has opened the door to education for students who might never have imagined it possible.
Whether it’s covering essentials, joining sports clubs and societies, or gaining life-changing
experiences, your support is helping students make the most of their time at Liverpool – and opening up futures that once felt out of reach.
On this page, you’ll hear from some of the students whose lives have been transformed because of you.
How the Liverpool Bursary helped Izzy

"I didn’t know if attending university was on the cards for me while I was at school, and I don’t know if I could have gone to university without the Liverpool Bursary. In sixth form, I was advised not to sit my A levels because I wasn’t expected to do well. But I sat - and passed - my exams, and now I’m a student at the University of Liverpool. I cried when I found out I had a place at the University. I’ve never cried from being happy before, but I sobbed that day.
"Until my first day of Freshers’ Week, I’d never been further north than Birmingham, but I immediately found Liverpool to be a vibrant, friendly and safe city. The sense of community helped me feel right at home.
"The Bursary has been an unimaginable help, and I have been able to actually ‘be a student’. Without this support, my life would look very different. I would be working far more hours and would have had to consider part-time courses to continue working. At home, we are unable to afford Wi-Fi and for several months had our electricity cut off. Without you, my quality of
living would have remained this way.
"I would like to emphasise how life-changing your support is for people like me. University has opened so many doors that would have remained firmly closed without the extra help I’ve received.” - Izzy, Second-year Classical Studies student and recipient of the Liverpool Bursary
Elouise: The road to dentistry

Your support is helping Elouise take the next step towards her dream of becoming a dentist. At the end of her first year, Elouise wanted to share an update on her journey.
"I have always dreamt of a career in dentistry, but a series of personal challenges made it almost impossible for me. At 16, I was placed in supported living for vulnerable adults, and I didn’t think I’d ever achieve my dream of studying to become a dentist. But here I am, four years on – and it’s amazing.
"Because of you, I could afford to study dentistry. I have since completed my foundation
year and first year. It’s a relief to be in a situation where revision is now my only stress. My life feels on track, and I owe so much of my progress to your kindness and support.” - Elouise, Dentistry Student and Recipient of the Liverpool Bursary and Divock Origi Scholarship
How your support is shaping Nish’s future
-1001x667.jpg)
Thanks to the support of the Liverpool Bursary and the Bloomberg Scholarship Nish is able to make the most of his university experience. Nish has used the support to attend insight evenings, gain legal work experience and plan for a career in law and politics.
"Coming from a working-class family, money was always a struggle,” he says. “The bursary lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I’ve never once had to worry about finances because Liverpool has had me covered. People who donate are investing in someone’s future - they’re giving people like me a chance.” - Nish, Second-year Law Student and recipient of the Liverpool Bursary and the Bloomberg Scholarship
The Bloomberg Scholarship was made possible thanks to the late Henry ‘Harry’ Bloomberg, who was an advocate for education and making learning accessible to all.

In celebration of Labid’s passion for architecture, this scholarship supports undergraduate students of Iraqi or Middle Eastern heritage, and will support the next stage of Safea’s journey at the University’s School of Architecture.
"Being awarded the Scholarship was one of the most meaningful moments of my academic journey. As an Iraqi architecture student, it felt deeply inspiring to be recognised in the name of such a respected architect. It fuels my passion to contribute positively to communities through design.” - Safea Al-Rawi, recipient of the Al-Fakhri Scholarship
