Year in Industry (Undergraduate)

Most undergraduate programmes within the School of the Arts now offer an optional Year in Industry.

The structure of these four-year programmes is almost identical to the three-year versions, with the third year spent entirely on placement in a salaried role in a field or industry relevant to your studies, before concluding your degree in your fourth and final year.

A dedicated second year module – SOTA260 (Professional and Career Development) – will help you source and prepare for your placement.*

The Year in Industry route is available on the following programmes:

Changing your pathway

You have the flexibility to switch between the three- and four-year versions of your programme at the end of your first year or at the end of your second year. Please speak to your Academic Advisor or the Student Experience Team for information on how to switch pathways.

Other placement opportunities

If a Year in Industry is not of interest to you, other work placement opportunities may be available to you as part of your degree, including through our School-wide module SOTA300: School of the Arts Placement Module. Please see our Placements and Employability page for further information.

*BSc Game Design
