Before you apply

This page outlines the supplementary information that you are required to provide before your application can be considered complete.

Supporting documentation

In addition to the information required on the application form, you will need to attach copies of the following documents to your application (whether online or offline):

  • School or college transcripts/certificates
  • University transcripts
  • Degree certificates
  • English language certificates (EU/International applicants only)
  • Personal statement
  • Research proposal (for MPhil applicants only)

References

As part of the admissions criteria we require two references. These should be academic references if you have been in full time education in the last three years. On our 'Apply Yourself' (AY) application, you should provide details of your referees who will then be emailed directly to request a written reference. We will also accept scanned versions of your references emailed to us.

The University provides downloadable reference forms within the Taught Application Pack. You may pass these forms on to your referees for them to complete and return to the University. Please note that this form of reference must be signed and stamped officially and only the reference form and information should be submitted to our office. If you choose to not use the reference forms, please ensure your reference is on appropriate letter headed paper and signed by your referee.

Please submit your references to:

If you have a pre-application query, please contact our Enquiries Team on pgrecruitment@liv.ac.uk.

Original or certified academic transcripts

The University requires all applicants to provide original academic documents (academic transcript, degree certificate and evidence of English) which verify their successfully completed qualifications.

For international applicants we are directed by the UK Visa'a and Immigration to request this evidence.  You can send these documents to the postal address opposite or they can be presented when you register at the University. On receiving any original documents in the post we will check these and return them to you promptly via a recorded postal service to the address we hold for you on record

If you have applied to us using one of our recognised international representatives (agents) it is not necessary for you to send these to us during the application stage, however you must show your international representative these documents for verification and present them during registration.

We require all transcripts from higher education (BA, BSc, MA, MSc for example) to be officially translated (if they are not issued in English) which can be done either by an official translation company, any British Council office or by your university. If you have already graduated, we need proof that you have undergone the proper ceremonies fully completing your degree, i.e. official copy of your award certificate stating the date you graduated. Please send all documentation to the Postgraduate Admissions Team at our address below as soon as possible. This will avoid unnecessary delays.

If you choose to provide copies of academic documentation during the application process then original copies of academic documents will be requested at the point of registration.
