American football

Welcome to the University American football team

The nature of an American football team means any and all body types are welcome and more than 22 players see action come game time. No matter what your size, shape, athletic ability or background, the Liverpool Raptors welcome you.

Currently competing regionally in Division 2 with the hopes of being promoted this season, continuing our play-off record (unbeaten in the post-season since 2018). In order to compete at the highest level, we've developed a programme for our athletes consisting of weight training, field practice and film study. All this is delivered by our expert player-coaches with assistance from coaches of the Merseyside Nighthawks.

While the level of equipment required for American Football may seem large the club has a large stock of equipment to provide to players – you only have to provide game pants, leg pads and boots. The committee will organise a kit shop to allow you to purchase these at minimal cost to you.

Social sport

Each September, we host rookie sessions which are the perfect time to try a new sport, return to an old one and meet the team.

Training times

Thursday 7-9pm
Sunday 10am-12pm

Social events

Taking part in monthly Athletics Union (AU) as well as weekly trips to the Scholar to watch NFL games on a Sunday night, the group spends a lot of time together both on and off the pitch. Every easter (covid permitting) many of the team go on a tour which is always a highlight of the social calendar.

The Athletic Union

The Athletic Union (AU) is a student lead union founded in 1884. The AU consists of competitive sports clubs representing the University in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS). The AU also provides opportunities for social sports with over 132 teams across three sports.

Being an AU member is a great way to stay active, develop management and leadership skills and meet people.

Other benefits include:

  • Representation within the Sport Liverpool department through the elected student AU executive committee

  • Priority access to AU social events
  • Financial support at representative level
  • Subsidised support to coaching an officials courses
  • Eligibility for colours and blues award.

The initial cost of the AU membership is £40 and this will allow you to join one club. If you wish to join multiple clubs, the cost for each club is £24 thereafter.
