Stress Awareness Month 2024

Sport Liverpool is supporting Stress Awareness Month and we have some ideas to help you reduce your stress levels to improve your overall mental and physical health.

Exercise has been proven to play a key role in lowering and managing your stress levels. Regular exercise, around 3-4 times per week, can have many benefits that can lower your stress levels, and help to improve your:

  • Confidence
  • Mood
  • Concentration
  • Blood pressure
  • Sleep and lots more

To help reduce your stress levels this April:

  • Set small achievable goals
  • Do something active most days
  • Change how you self-talk. Congratulate yourself on your achievements and plan how you can face your challenges

Each week we will give you an activity challenge to help you feel fitter, healthier and lower your stress levels.

 

WEEK 1 - Go out for a walk

Sounds simple but doing a 30 minute walk everyday can have such a positive impact on you mental, physical and emotional health.

Go for a 30 minutes walk every day this week. It can be a great way to clear your mind from any daily stresses.

Why not join us on one of our Wednesday Walks around Campus! We will be leading a walk from the sports and fitness centre at 8am, 1pm and 5pm Every Wednesday for the month of April. No need to book, just turn up at these times ready to go!

WEEK 2 - Take it to the water

Swimming is a fantastic full body exercise that not only improves your cardiovascular fitness but can help with you mental health and well-being.

Swim for 20-30 minutes, 3 x this week.

We have some set swim workouts for you to try on poolside.

WEEK 3 - Take part in Group Exercise

Training in groups has the added benefit of connecting with people with similar goals to yourself. This can have such a positive impact on how you take on any challenges you are facing.

Complete 3 classes this week.

We have such a variety of classes for you to try. From yoga and Pilates to hiit and bodypump. Try a variety of classes as they all have different benefits for you body and mind.

WEEK 4 - Get to the gym!

There are so many options for your training in the gym. We have such a variety of cardiovascular, resistance and free weights as well as functional equipment.

Your target for this last week is to have 3 appointments with our fitness team to help get you moving towards your goals. We have such a variety of services on offer to help improve your health and fitness.

You can book in for the following, all free;

  • Gym programme
  • Technique sessions on either Squat, Dead-lift or Bench Press
  • Gym floor or outdoor conditioning classes
