The University of Liverpool’s sector-leading work on supporting diverse research outputs was showcased at this year’s Hidden REF Festival, where Dr Natalie Wallis opened the event with a keynote highlighting Liverpool’s innovative approach to recognising and developing a wide range of research outputs beyond traditional publications. By broadening what counts as research excellence, Liverpool is helping to ensure that the full breadth and impact of its work is recognised - strengthening both research culture and future REF performance.
The talk outlined how Liverpool’s Outputs Development Team is driving progress by creating infrastructure, guidance, and training to help researchers produce and evidence diverse outputs - including exhibitions, datasets, reports, and performances - for assessment and recognition.
This talk was also featured in Research Professional News, which discussed how risk-averse approaches might hinder REF performance and highlighted Liverpool’s proactive stance as a model for the sector. Learn more about how Liverpool supports research outputs on the Outputs Development webpages.
