Work with us
Liverpool Shared Research Facilities (LIV-SRF) works flexibly with all kinds of partners, offering a range of access models to suit your needs. From short-term consultancy and service work to long-term method development and more strategic collaborations, we adapt to fit the goals of your project.
LIV-SRF is supported by a core team, who act as your first point of contact. We can direct you to the correct facility for your needs and assist with the necessary paperwork and logistics to facilitate your project. Our experts can provide bespoke guidance and support at all stages, from feasibility discussions and experimental design, through to sample analyses, and data interpretation.
LIV-SRF welcome complex projects and can develop pipelines and workflows to assist in working across multiple facilities.
Who we work with
We welcome clients from across the research landscape, whether you're based at the University of Liverpool, another Higher Education Institution, an NHS Trust, private company, or research institute. Our industry clients include spin-out and start-up companies, and SMEs, as well as global pharmaceutical companies and product manufacturers.
Please visit our individual facility pages to view case studies for some of the projects we’ve enabled.
Voucher scheme
Our voucher scheme is designed to fund small pump-priming projects that have the potential to develop new areas of research by offsetting the costs of accessing our SRFs.
Applications are invited from all University of Liverpool academic staff, research staff and Research Technical Professionals, and PGR students. (Please note that the scheme is internal-only).
Further information is available on our intranet.
Acknowledging our facilities
Acknowledging our SRFs helps to promote our facilities both internally and externally, and provides a valuable metric to demonstrate our impact and success, particularly when applying for funding to develop and advance our facilities. Acknowledging facility staff in publications ensures that these experts are appropriately recognised for their skills and contribution.
Although use of an SRF incurs a charge, continued support for facilities from the University of Liverpool relies in part on demonstrating the success of the facility through the outstanding research to which we can contribute.
Acknowledging LIV-SRF facilities
Please remember to acknowledge each LIV-SRF facility you use, in all publications arising from work with our SRFs.
Acknowledgement text
The following text can be used for an acknowledgement statement and please also remember to share a copy of your publication with the facility:
"The Authors acknowledge use of [insert SRF name] provided by Liverpool Shared Research Facilities, University of Liverpool."
Acknowledging SRF staff
Our facilities would not be able to run without our fantastic facility staff. In line with the Technicians Commitment and Researcher Concordat, we are firmly committed to supporting facility staff and recognising the important work they do. They are all experts in their field, providing technical assistance and scientific guidance for your projects daily.
Please refer to The Academy’s Fair Attribution Guidelines for Technical and Specialist Support (PDF, 135 KB) for how to appropriately acknowledge facility staff contributions in your publications.
Element tagging (internal only)
Once a paper has been published and claimed in Elements, you can add a Relationship to the SRF (.docx, 15.6 KB) using the Equipment module. This takes just a few clicks and is vital to ensure we can report annually on the publications SRFs have supported, and that we can fully record and recognise their contributions.
