SLSA Postgraduate Conference

Date: 8-9 January 2014

Every year the SLSA runs a conference for postgraduate students. This year the conference is being organised by the School of Law and Social Justice, Law department. The conference will take place at the University of Liverpool. It is open to both members and non-members of the SLSA, and is FREE.

The conference will be run principally through small group workshops. Sessions will be led by leading socio-legal academics with an established research record and understanding of the university sector.

The conference is very informal, and one of its main aims is to encourage networking between postgraduate research students with an interest in socio-legal studies. There will be plenty of opportunities for discussions with other postgraduates, as well as with the facilitators. Everyone attending will be invited to submit a short synopsis of their research interests. These will be distributed to all students attending the conference, so as to facilitate the networking process.

The topics covered in the conference workshops will include:

  • giving a conference paper
  • getting published
  • time management
  • managing your supervisor
  • getting through your viva
  • academic job-hunting
  • research ethics

Conference Dinner

There will be a dinner for all attendees at Bistro Jacques on the Wednesday evening which will be paid for by the SLSA. Attendees will be able to choose 3 courses from a set menu.
