Students looking at artefects at Museum of Liverpool

About us

Be part of our success story

Study at Liverpool and you will benefit from our unique educational experience and career opportunities. As a leading Irish Studies Institute we offer funded career placements and have strong links with a network of  internationally prominent people from many walks of life.

My interdisciplinary degree at the Institute gave me the skills necessary for working in an organisation that champions social justice.

World-leading reputation

The Blair Chair multi-million pound endowment from the Irish government was awarded in 2007 in recognition of our world-leading reputation.

This funding continues to support our teaching and research in peace, conflict, and social justice, modern Irish literature in English, and medieval and modern history.

It also supports our prestigious series of public lectures by dignitaries including President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins and former President Mary Robinson.

Ambassador of Ireland

Daniel Mulhall

The Irish Government and our Embassy in London has always been a strong supporter of the Institute of Irish Studies. I have greatly enjoyed my engagement with the Institute during my time in Britain. The Institute plays a special role in promoting Irish Studies in Britain and thus fostering close ties between our two countries. In addition to excellent scholarships pursued at the Institute, I especially admire the important outreach work it does with the wider community in Liverpool. I have been deeply impressed with the events organised by the Institute, which have invariably attracted strong public support.
