Outreach & Schools Liaison

The School of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science runs a variety of outreach activities designed to educate and enthuse school children about the subjects we teach and research within the School.   Our provision has activities that span Years 5 – 12 and we work with diverse groups of pupils from local and regional schools.

The leader of the Computer Science outreach team is Dr. Davide Grossi, who can be contacted at: D.Grossi@liverpool.ac.uk

The leader of the Electrical Engineering and Electronics outreach team is Dr. Kirsty McKay.  She can be contacted at: kmckay@liverpool.ac.uk

If you would like to discuss how we could engage with your school pupils and the cost of our activities, please send an email to Davide or Kirsty.

Below is a sample of the activities we engage in and offer.

  • Practical activities in schools (for Years 5 - 10)
Computer science: Programming Lego robots.  We bring Lego robots into schools for pupils to engage in hour-long sessions learning about the robots and how to program them to perform simple tasks.
  • Taster days on campus (for Year 11)
We host classes of pupils for a day at the University and provide four interactive ‘taster’ sessions on topics that are of relevance to the study of computer science and electrical engineering.
  • Residential summer schools (for Years 12 - 13)
We offer 2-day residential spring/summer schools.  Students spend a night in the university’s halls of residence and have 2 days of hands-on learning about topics studied on our degree programmes.
  • The Annual Computer Science Summer School typically takes place in ealry July.  Full details for the 2016 program will be available soon
  • Faculty events (various year groups)
The Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Liverpool organises various events throughout the year to which computer science and electrical engineering contribute. Examples are:
