Yeonkyung Kim: Semester Two Catch Up

Published on

Hi, this is Yeonkyung Kim from South Korea. I’m currently a first-year student studying Communication and Media at the University of Liverpool.

Since returning from the Easter break and starting my second semester, I feel much more settled compared to my first term. I have adjusted better not only to university life but also to living in Liverpool overall.

This semester, I am also working as the Head of Marketing for the Banking and Finance Society alongside my role as a university ambassador.

Through planning and promoting projects in collaboration with other societies and external organisations, I found the experience really engaging and was able to confirm my growing interest in marketing.

Academically, I am particularly enjoying my Digital Communication and Social Media module, where I am learning coding and media data analysis. This course has allowed me to explore different areas within media and has helped broaden both my academic knowledge and perspective.

One of my international friends who is currently studying a master’s in psychology mentioned that although this semester has been very hectic, she find her classes helpful and interesting while preparing for her dissertation.

Coming from a region in India influenced by Tibetan and Chinese culture, she recently visited a small Nepalese cafe in the city centre. She was reminded of her school days back home when she used to enjoy street food with friends after classes while having Tibetan dumplings.

Many of my international friends say that studying abroad helps develop important life skills beyond academics.  Living independently improves time management and teaches the importance of using time effectively. We also learn to trust ourselves more, build confidence, and develop a more positive outlook for the future by constantly facing new challenges.

Overall, this second semester has been a meaningful period of growth for me. It has strengthened both my confidence and motivation to take on new challenges. I look forward to continuing this journey and making the next academic year even more fulfilling.
