Posted on: 12 February 2026 by Christine Greenwood in 2026

Christine Greenwood, PA (personal assistant) and Management Services Team Administrator

This edition of Spotlight focuses on Christine Greenwood, who provides a wide range of support to academics, not only at the University but also at Aintree University Hospital. Christine explains what she enjoys most about her role and how she recently fulfilled a lifelong dream.

Hi Christine, tell us about your role – what does a typical day look like for you?

My main role is supporting the Academics in the research team at Aintree University Hospital, who specialise in research into diabetes, endocrinology and obesity. I work on a wide range of academic, research‑related tasks, providing administrative, organisational, and operational support to keep the department running smoothly. The research environment is fast‑paced and constantly evolving, so my workload is always varied and never dull.

I am also a member of the Management Services team in ILCAMS, which keeps me busy with various and numerous daily tasks.

What do you enjoy most about working in our Institute community?

What I enjoy most about working in the Department at Aintree is being part of a team and the friendships I’ve made over the 30 years I’ve worked here. Due to the nature of research, people come and go all the time, so I have met many wonderful people over the years, and the department is always changing and evolving, and being part of that is something I truly value.

Being part of the Management Services Team has been a real journey—full of highs, challenges, and plenty of learning along the way—but what has made it truly worthwhile are my colleagues and the support we give each other. No matter how busy or unpredictable things become, there’s always someone willing to help, listen, or step in.

What inspires or motivates you outside of work? (e.g. hobbies, causes, family, travel, volunteering)

My family is everything to me. Seeing our two children grow and become wonderful adults, carving their own paths in the world, is so rewarding. It has also opened a new chapter for me and my husband, where we are enjoying the freedom to rediscover our own interests and spend time doing the things we love together.

One of those things was fulfilling my lifelong dream of visiting the Canadian Rockies. We drove through some of the most breath-taking scenery I’ve ever seen, surrounded by mountains, lakes, and unforgettable landscapes. The trip didn’t just meet my expectations; it exceeded them in every possible way. I still have to pinch myself to believe it really happened.

I like to keep active outside of work by going on long walks and swimming at the University Sports Centre. Both activities have become a huge part of my routine—a chance to switch off, clear my head, and recharge.

What’s a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know?

This may not seem fun to some, but I’m a regular blood donor—something I’ve kept up for many years, with over 35 donations so far. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that such a small act on my part can make a real difference to someone in need. Receiving the text alert telling me where my donation has gone is a great reminder of the impact each donation can have.
