Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed has been recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT).

EACPT is the leading society in Europe serving the European and global clinical pharmacology and therapeutics community. It includes all national organisations for clinical pharmacology in Europe and provides educational and scientific support for more than 4000 members.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises significant achievement, both for the benefit of science and for the benefit and health of clinical pharmacology and society in general, over a whole working life.

Professor Pirmohamed received the award at the EACPT congress in Helsinki, Finland, where he delivered a lecture entitled ‘A career in drug safety: protecting patients through research’. A former President of the British Pharmacological Society, he was recognised for his contributions to Clinical Pharmacology, particularly in the area of drug safety.  Based in the University’s Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, his work has had national and international impact, from the training of healthcare professionals to improving patient safety and saving lives.

Professor Pirmohamed said: "It was a great privilege and honour to be awarded this prestigious prize from EACPT, following in the footsteps of giants in this subject including the past two winners, Professors Kim Brøsen and Tabassome Simon, who were in the audience! This recognises the work of the whole team, past and present, in Liverpool and many collaborators nationally and internationally. Thank you to the British Pharmacological Society for nominating me."

Professor Tony Marson, Executive Dean of the Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology commented: "Munir is an outstanding researcher and a tremendous ambassador for the University of Liverpool. His research has had significant international impact, and I am delighted to see his achievements recognised by this award."
