Hiring a gown
Order online at and receive a £5.00 discount. Further details can be found at www.gownhire.co.uk.
It is recommended that your graduation gown is ordered online from Ede & Ravenscroft no later than three weeks before your ceremony to ensure the availability of your gown/hood.
The website will be open for orders from WEDNESDAY 18 MARCH 2020.
Alternatively, you can order by phone on +44(0)1223 861854 between 9am and 5pm (GMT). You must pay by credit or debit card. Please note, the £5.00 discount does not apply to orders made over the phone.
If you do not have a credit or debit card, please call +44(0)1223 861854 between 9am and 5pm (GMT) for details of how to order your gown by post.
When ordering, please have the following information:
- Your award details (e.g. BA, BSc, MBA)
- Head circumference
- Chest measurements
- Credit/debit card details
If you are unsure of the award with which you will be graduating, please contact us for clarification before attempting to order your gown. It is essential that you order the correct gown and hood as the wearing of an incorrect hood may see you fail to be admitted to your degree.
Please be aware that, should the University recommend the award of a Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate (rather than your original Master's qualification aim) and should you still wish to attend the ceremony to be presented with your award, then arrangements will need to be made to amend your hood order. Further details will be provided at the time should this be the case.
Collecting and Returning your Gown
You should collect your gown and hood from the Liverpool Guild of Students (building number 502 on the University Campus Map, Grid Ref: D6). Gown collection will open at 7.00am on each day of graduation week.
You must collect your gown at least an hour and 15 minutes before the commencement of your ceremony.
Please bring your order confirmation with you on the day of your ceremony, so that your order can be processed quickly. If you have ordered online, remember to print out a copy of your order confirmation.
The graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and it is respectfully requested that graduands and guests dress appropriately for the occasion. Suggestions for appropriate attire underneath academic robes would be a lounge suit, shirt and tie, or a skirt/trousers and shirt/blouse. Footwear should also be formal although you should be aware that, if you are able to, you will be required to use stairs when being admitted to your degree - please therefore choose your footwear carefully.
You are also reminded that all graduands are required to wear their mortar boards throughout the proceedings and not just when you are admitted to your degree.
