Grange-over-Sands

Castle Head field class

All first year undergraduates visit Grange-over-Sands, staying at Castle Head which is owned and operated by the Field Studies Council.

Our visit provides a broad introduction to a range of ecological sampling techniques allowing us to explore community structure and change in a diversity of environments.

Students

Environments that we may sample include an estuary, woodland, beaches and saltmarsh as we sample for organisms using pitfall traps, quadrats, cores, kick-nets and more.

Students in rain

The course is assessed through a test including specimen identification during our stay and on a portfolio of activity.
