The Other Rome: Centring People and Spaces of Maintenance

Published on

City street with classical buildings on either side, and a large cathedral visible in the background. On the street a man is tossing a rubbish sack into a refuse truck.

Millions of tourists come to Rome each year to admire its monuments, surviving traces of ancient power. Behind—and often amidst—those ruins lives another Rome: one made by the people who clean, sweep, and care for the city every day. This film presents some of their voices.

The film is funded by the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council, for the project “The Other Rome: Centring People and Spaces of Maintenance”.

Principal Investigator: Dr. Francesca Piazzoni
