Hands down our best hall for first years with beautiful, modern accommodation, stunning parkland, and fabulous facilities, it is the ideal place to start your University life.

We cannot speak highly enough about Greenbank—and neither can our students! Located just three miles from campus and served by the dedicated 699 bus route, Greenbank offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful retreat surrounded by private parkland, just a 15-minute journey from campus. Nearby Lark Lane, Rose Lane, Allerton Road, and Smithdown provide a fantastic selection of bars, cafés, and shops.

At Greenbank, student life is front and centre. The Halls Life Team organizes events ranging from flat-based activity packs for cosy nights to large outdoor festivals that make the most of Greenbank’s incredible space. Residents also enjoy access to a free gym, outdoor sports facilities, and fantastic communal spaces.

Greenbank is divided into three sites: Derby, Roscoe, and Derby Old Court. Derby and Roscoe feature modern, purpose-built student accommodation, while Derby Old Court offers something truly unique. This beautiful listed building has been carefully renovated for students, with each room boasting individual character—a stunning and special place to call home.

The University offers heavily discounted bus passes through Arriva that can be purchased via the Guild for £111 in semester one. Greenbank is also the only hall with on-site parking, available for £155 per year. Spaces are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with further details provided closer to your arrival.

You can find out more about each room type by clicking on the photo tiles below.

Fire Safety Works Statement

We take our residents’ safety very seriously, and you might be aware there have been recent changes to Fire Safety Regulations in high-rise buildings affecting many student accommodation properties in the UK.

In 2026/27 there will be a programme of fire safety improvement works conducted at Greenbank Student Village.  The programme of work will include some maintenance to bedroom doors, communal doors and riser doors throughout all buildings located on Greenbank Student Village.  Additionally, there will be some work carried out to the void spaces above some ceilings and will form part of the overall fire safety programme.  Following completion of the maintenance to all fire doors, this will then be followed up with any painting that’s required to make good from the maintenance of those areas.

It is anticipated that the fire safety maintenance work including any remedial painting will take up to 5 working days per cluster (corridor that accommodates a specific number of bedrooms, communal hall and kitchen).   We expect that there will be some noise levels from the fire safety maintenance work and may include intermittent drilling etc. and we are working closely with the programme leads to minimise disruption and impact on students during this time. If the fire safety works require access to your bedroom, the Greenbank Team will contact you to make arrangements. You will receive a minimum of 7 days' notice before the works are due to take place.

Our buildings and systems already meet all safety requirements, this is just part of our ongoing efforts to keep our accommodation in top condition. The buildings remain suitable for occupation, and appropriate fire safety arrangements will continue to be maintained while these planned improvement works are completed; this is a long-term precaution to ensure the building continues to maintain and improve the building’s fire safety measures and support continued compliance with current standards.

Residential advisers

Student welfare within our accommodation is the responsibility of hall wardens, assisted by senior residential advisers and the wider residential adviser team.

Wardens are senior members of staff who live in the halls of residence, ensuring students get the support and assistance they need throughout their time in University accommodation. At Greenbank Student Village there are two wardens who oversee all aspects of pastoral care.

The team are there to help you with any personal problems and aim to assist students by being pastoral leaders. You will usually meet with your warden at welcome events during the first few days of term: it is important that you attend these, as there will be information specific to your hall of residence.

Our residential adviser team provides an on-call emergency service Monday to Friday, 8pm to 7.30am and Saturday to Sunday, 6pm to 9am.
