Language, Cognition and Brain Science

The aim of our researchers operating within the Language, Cognition, and Brain Science Research theme is to understand the development and function of the human brain.

Researchers working within the theme study perception, decision making, language, memory, pain, and the processes by which children learn their first language. Our research explores both typical brain function and how it is altered in clinical conditions, ageing, and developmental disorders.

Using state-of-the-art methods, including psychophysics, eye tracking, electroencephalography (EEG), functional and structural brain imaging, computational modelling, Virtual Reality (VR), brain stimulation (e.g. TMS), our teams are developing a deeper understanding of the human brain, opening up new avenues of research and clinical treatment.

The Language, Cognition and Brain Science research theme is led by Professor Julian Pine.
